Naturally Dyed Yarn

Each skein of wool is dyed by hand using plant dyes. Our color palette, derived entirely from natural dyes, reflects the natural colors of our home state of beautiful West Virginia.

As you explore our shop, imagine the forests filled with Chestnut Oaks and Virginia Pines, mossy river rocks, and all the saturated blues of our rolling expanse of sky.

About Blue Thistle

Blue Thistle Fibers is a small-batch, naturally dyed fiber company based in the mountains of West Virginia. We hand-dye protein and cellulose fibers, including fabrics, yarns, knitwear, and processed wool products using natural dyes. We grow dye flowers and forage dye materials from our 3-acre urban farm and also source raw materials from our growing network of small farms and specialty producers.

Dark River Orchid Baby Suri Alpalca / Mulberry Silk

    $30.00

    Blue Colorway:ย  Dark River Orchidย  ย 50 g / 459 yd / 420 m.

Dark River Orchid Baby Suri Alpaca / Mulberry Silk is 1 ply blend ofย  75% Baby Suri Alpaca / 25% Mulberry Silk.

A fuzzy plume of baby suri alpaca aloft a resplendent, shimmering core of silk, this yarn floats as if lifted by air and adds a beautiful, soft texture to any project. Can be used as a great substitute for mohair, but itโ€™s so much softer that itโ€™s hard to call it a substitute. Our Suri Alpaca/Silk blend holds its own in projects or looks great with another yarn to add a lovely halo effect. Wool Origin: Peru.

Hand wash in cold water using mild detergent. Do not bleach. Dry flat away from direct sunlight.

While our team hand-dyes each skein with the utmost care, natural dyes results can vary based on plant materials and fibers. Please be aware that variations in color and appearance may vary from the display image. Please wash yarn before first use as natural dye color can bleed for several washes. For more details see our FAQ.
