Madder root gives color in sequence. The first pull is cherry red. The middle pull is coral. At the very end of the bath, the exhaust, it gives this: dusty rose, soft and cool-warm, the color at the edge of the pink spectrum before it fades entirely. Not pale. Quiet.

Baby suri alpaca has a natural luster unlike any wool. Combined with mulberry silk, the fiber catches light from every angle: the dusty rose lifts in the sun, deepens in the shadow, and reads slightly different at each hour of the day. Where the same exhaust pull on BFL gives apricot, on suri and silk it gives something cooler and more luminous: same dye, different material, different color.

The Rosy Maple Moth (Dryocampa rubicunda) lives in the hardwood forests of the Appalachians, its wings the soft pink of this skein, edged in yellow. A small moth. An extraordinary color. Litha 2026.
