DK Naturally Dyed Yarn

DK Weight Naturally Dyed Yarns
Our most versatile weight for sweaters, accessories, and year-round knits. DK works up quickly at a satisfying gauge while showing stitch definition beautifully. Every skein naturally dyed with botanical color in our West Virginia dye works.
Merino/Recycled Nylon DK gives you the best of both worlds — soft 80% superwash merino for next-to-skin comfort and 20% recycled nylon for durability and structure. At 437 yards per 100 grams, this generous yardage makes it economical for larger projects. The 4-ply construction wears beautifully, resists pilling, and holds up to regular washing. Perfect for everyday sweaters, hard-working cowls, and children’s garments that need to last through active play.
100% Merino DK offers pure wool in certified mulesing-free superwash merino. Available in two constructions (246 and 256 yards per 100g), this classic DK showcases natural dye colors with remarkable clarity — no nylon to dull the botanical tones. The 4-ply structure creates excellent stitch definition for cables, textured patterns, and colorwork. Ideal for knitters who want pure wool softness with easy-care superwash convenience.
Cashmere/Merino/Nylon DK adds 10% cashmere to superwash merino and recycled nylon for everyday luxury. The cashmere softens the hand without sacrificing structure or durability. At 437 yards per 100 grams, you get generous yardage for sweaters, cardigans, and wraps. This blend takes madder dyes beautifully — the cashmere seems to glow with warm rose and coral tones.
Silk/Linen DK brings botanical elegance: 65% tussah silk and 35% linen from Canada create a 6-ply yarn with exceptional drape and subtle texture. At 215 yards per 100 grams, this works beautifully for summer cardigans, lightweight shawls, and three-season layering pieces. The linen adds structure and breathability while silk provides sheen and softness. Natural dyes develop sophisticated earth tones on this blend — plant tannins create warm taupes and greys, while indigo produces complex blue-greens.
Silk/Camel DK combines 70% tussah silk from Italy with 30% camel fiber from Mongolia in a 3-ply construction. This exotic blend offers silk’s lustrous drape with camel’s legendary warmth and softness. At 243 yards per 115 grams, it works efficiently for special-occasion garments and heirloom accessories. The camel fiber takes natural dyes with remarkable depth, creating rich earth tones and sophisticated neutrals.
Great for: Sweaters, cardigans, cowls, hats, mittens, baby garments, shawls, market bags, and machine knitting. DK gauge typically works at 21-24 stitches per 4 inches on US 4-6 needles.
Natural dye performance: DK weight gives botanical dyes room to develop complexity. Madder creates everything from soft dusty rose to deep crimson. Indigo builds from pale sky to deep navy through multiple dips. Plant tannins and iron modifiers produce sophisticated earth tones — sage, ochre, bark brown, charcoal grey. The heavier weight shows tonal variation beautifully, creating depth within each skein.
Care: Machine wash gentle for superwash merino blends, or hand wash cool water with wool-safe detergent. Silk/linen and silk/camel blends benefit from hand washing. Lay flat to dry away from direct heat. DK weight blocks beautifully — pin to measurements for even gauge throughout your garment.
