Burgundy DK Weight – Madder Reds & Pinks

Deep wine color — darker and more wine-like than red, with an iron quality that transforms madder toward true burgundy. The color of aged wine held to candlelight, of deep grape skins, of vintage burgundy fabric. More wine than red, sitting closer to deep purple-brown than bright red, with the particular richness that only heavy iron modification of madder gives.

Naturally dyed with madder root (Rubia tinctorum) from Maiwa with a heavy iron modifier. The madder provides the base; the substantial iron application shifts it away from red toward wine-dark burgundy. The iron deepens and mutes the madder, creating a color that reads as wine first, red second. Part of our Madder Reds & Pinks collection.

This is a tonal colorway — each skein moves through natural variations within the color range as the dye responds to each fiber. Colors may vary from images online. Pre-wash in cold water by hand before use, as natural dyes may release excess color during the first several washes. Lay flat to dry out of direct sunlight.

Dye source: Madder root (Rubia tinctorum) + heavy iron modifier — Maiwa
