First Wash (All Fibers):
Natural indigo may release small amounts of excess dye during the first wash—this is normal and expected with vat dyes. Wash alone or with similar dark colors the first time. After the initial wash, colors are permanent and will not bleed.
Natural Dye Variation Notice
Each skein is hand-dyed in small batches using living plant materials, and natural variation is inherent and celebrated in our process. While we work to achieve visual consistency, slight differences in color intensity, variegation pattern, and tone may occur between skeins and between dye lots.
For best results:
- Purchase enough yarn for your entire project
- For large projects, alternate skeins every 2 rows/rounds to blend any subtle variations
- For socks, we recommend alternating skeins to ensure a matched pair
- Save extra skeins for future repairs or coordinating projects
What makes each skein unique:
- Living indigo vats change slightly day to day
- Natural fiber variation affects dye uptake
- Seasonal changes in water and temperature influence color
- Hand application creates organic variegation patterns
This variation is not a defect—it's the signature of natural dyes and hand-crafted artisan work. Your project will be truly one-of-a-kind.
